Multipurpose Pavilion
Tortosa, Spain / Sports / 7,792 m²
Located close to the river in a part of the city undergoing extensive urban development, the program for this project called for a multifunctional building that could be used for the celebration of trade fairs and exhibitions, as well as sports and entertainment events.
The design strategy was defined by the structural system, with the main hall conceived of as a diaphanous translucent “container” that provides maximum functional flexibility. The civic character is emphasized by the two large public plazas that flank the rectangular volume. The main access is on the west side, and the east facade is composed of a reversible stage for both interior and exterior events.
Its scale and formal simplicity allow the building to fulfill its urban role in the construction of the city, creating a new landmark to serve the citizens of Tortosa.
The green roof integrates with the natural landscape, significantly improving the building’s energy efficiency and interior confort.
