The Mollet University Hospital replaces the small municipal hospital in the city center. Its location on the major ring road facing a large-scale park was a strategic decision to facilitate access for the citizens of the entire region of Vallès Oriental.

To minimize the building’s visual impact and maximize views of the park, the design uses the site’s slope to create a mainly horizontal structure made up of staggered volumes that follow the terrain. In the main entrance’s large public plaza, a 100-year-old oak tree was preserved as the central feature.

The hospital is organized around interior garden patios that bring sunlight into all the rooms, significantly reducing energy consumption. The building also features radiant ceilings, sustainable roofs, a rainwater collection system, and geothermal energy. The commitment of the Fundació Sanitària Mollet to the Green Hospital project has made it a NetZero hospital and an international benchmark for sustainable, environmentally friendly healthcare architecture.

Sustainability was a primary consideration in the design of the hospital, resulting in the incorporation of geothermal energy, photovoltaic panels, water management, and thermal insulation on facades and roofs.
