Technical School Nº 508

Santa Fe, Argentina / Education / 3,353 m²

Selected, FAD Prizes for International Architecture, 2014

Selected, Catalan International Architecture Exhibition, COAC 2015

The Technical School Nº 508 “Dra. Cecilia Grierson” forms part of the social architecture program promoted by the regional government of Santa Fe and it’s the first school built following the “typological project system” devised by Mario Corea.

The system is characterized by several elements. First of all, the classrooms are designed using a modular system punctuated by interior courtyards that act as extensions of the learning environment. Secondly, the tower that houses the water tank is an identifying element that is visible from a distance, integrating the school and the community. Finally, the interior spaces have areas that can be used by the students as well as the neighbors when classes are not in session.

This design system allows for the possibility to respond to different programs, scales, and contexts and makes it possible to construct a series of similar educational centers in an economical and efficient way.

The interior courtyards are designed as extensions of the classrooms and by providing natural light and ventilation they create a healthy environment for the children and teachers.
